Police say that a Bramwell, West Virginia man who was supposed to have an ignition interlock device on his car after being convicted of driving under the influence was driving drunk New Years' Day when he was involved in a head-on collision in Bluefield, West Virginia. Ignition interlock devices act as a form of breath testing machine that is hooked up to the ignition of a car.

A Marion County, West Virginia woman was killed Thursday night in a three-car wreck in Upshur County. Buckhannon Police say that a 22-year-old Carolina, West Virginia woman suffered severe personal injuries in the accident along Corridor H and was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Rig operator killed in roll over near West Virginia mine

An employee of an independent drilling contractor was killed in an industrial accident near the Loveridge Preparation Plant in Fairview, West Virginia earlier this month. Authorities say that the worker was using a core drilling rig as a part of an exploratory project on Marcellas shale gas deposits when the rig rolled over. The geophysical seismic testing project involved drilling a series of 30-foot deep holes, which facilitated seismic testing through the use of explosive charges in the holes.

EMT killed in ambulance and truck accident near Weston, West Virginia

Investigators continue to look into what happened Tuesday when a Jan-Care Ambulance Services vehicle collided with a flat bed semi truck Tuesday morning on Interstate 79. The collision occurred near Weston, West Virginia. A 26-year-old EMT who was riding as a passenger in the ambulance suffered severe injuries and dies at Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Weston. A spokesperson for the ambulance company says that a paramedic on board also suffered personal injuries in the ambulance and truck accident. The paramedic reportedly was treated for injuries and later released from the hospital.

West Virginia researcher says male pedestrians at higher risk than women

New research shows that men are two times more likely to suffer fatal injuries in a pedestrian accident than women. A researcher with the West Virginia University School of Public Health an Injury Control Research Center spearheaded the study. Researchers looked at data recorded in the United States 2008 and 2009. Worldwide, more than 1.2 million people are killed in traffic accidents and in the United States 12 percent of all traffic fatalities involve a pedestrian.

Drunk driver in fatal US 11 head-on crash sentenced to home confinement

The man who was accused of drunk driving in a fatal accident at the intersection of U.S. 11 and Berkeley Station Road has been sentenced in a criminal case arising from the wreck. The sentencing was earlier this month. The man had originally been charged with felony drunk driving causing death and failure to yield for his alleged role in the head-on collision.

1 killed, 5 injured in US 50 car accident in Ritchie County, West Virginia

Four cars were involved in a collision last week on Route 50 in Ritchie County, West Virginia. State Police dispatched an accident reconstructionist to investigate the multi-vehicle wreck. One man was killed in the accident, which occurred last Monday in the westbound lanes of U.S. 50 at the intersection with West Virginia 74.

2 Killed, 1 injured in US 219 crash in Greenbrier County

Law enforcement says that three people were ejected from a car in a single-vehicle accident in Greenbrier County, West Virginia Saturday. Two people were killed, while the driver of the car sustained critical injuries and was taken to Charleston, West Virginia hospital for treatment. Police believe that the car involved in the fatal accident had been involved in a street race with another car. A witness told authorities that the second car left the area after the car accident.
