Two pedestrians were struck in an accident Wednesday in Nitro, West Virginia. A 22-year-old St. Albans, West Virginia woman was killed in the car accident. Authorities say that she died at the scene. The second pedestrian involved in the accident is a 40-year-old man, also from St. Albans. Authorities say that he suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the accident and was taken to CAMC General.
Law enforcement says that many questions remain unanswered surrounding the accident. Authorities say the pedestrian accident occurred shortly before 11:00 Wednesday night along Cross Lanes Drive in Nitro. Police say that they hope the man injured in the accident can fill in some details about events surrounding the fatal accident.
Initial reports say that a witness noticed some kind of disturbance happening before a car approached the couple. The witness believes that the couple may have been in the road when the car approached from the north. The southbound vehicle hit both pedestrians.
Investigators from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office Reconstruction Unit opened an investigation. Deputies say that the driver of the vehicle did not violate any traffic laws leading to the fatal accident. But investigators remain puzzled about the events immediately preceding the crash.
The witness says that some kind of dispute was going on. But authorities do not know how many people may have been involved in the alleged argument. The wife of the man injured in the pedestrian accident reportedly told WSAZ News that he was trying to save the woman when the two pedestrians were struck by the car on Cross Lanes Drive
The survivor of the pedestrian accident is reportedly in satisfactory condition at the hospital.
